EMIS Access enables patients to schedule an appointment with their physician over the internet.

The service is proving popular with patients of all ages. Patients that are comfortable with viewing, booking and cancelling appointments online find it very useful for those times when the clinic is closed or phone lines are busy.

The website has been carefully designed for ease of use for all types of people and as many different browsers as possible. It is even possible to use EMIS Access from some mobile phones. Future possibilities include using EMIS Access from touch screens in the surgery.

The popularity of online appointment booking has led to extra online features being introduced to help patients with a busy lifestyle communicate more easily with their physician clinic.

Patient queries

A patient query system enables patients to submit their questions via a form on the website to the clinic, where a designated person can respond. Queries can also be passed on to another member of staff for special attention. This frees up the reception telephone from routine enquiries and allows them to be dealt with when the clinic is quieter. Unlike email, EMIS Access messages are encrypted across the network.

Patient pre-registration

Pre-registration allows busy practices to direct new patients to a web page where they can complete their name, address, and other registration information – this can then be inserted directly into a new patient record, saving time inputting data for reception staff.

Change of address

The change of address facility allows patients to correct their address or telephone details or advise a change of address. The changes are vetted by the practice before acceptance, for example if a patient moves out-of-area.

Forthcoming features

A much requested feature that is currently in development is repeat prescription requesting for patients. This will enable patients to order repeat medication via the internet.

Not all clinics will want to offer every feature, so EMIS Access options can be turned on or off at will within EMIS.
