EMIS INC. ENTERS AGREEMENT WITH PROVINCE OF BC

Solution to be offered as part of PITO Project

Edmonton, Alberta - 13 December

EMIS Inc. is pleased to announce that it has successfully completed negotiations with British Columbia’s Ministry of Health on behalf of the Province to participate in the Physician Information Technology Office (PITO) project. Under this agreement, physicians in BC will be provided funding via the Ministry of Health to support the implementation of an electronic medical record (EMR) provided the EMR selected by the physician is from a limited list of approved solutions, including EMIS Inc’s Patient Care System (PCS).

Eric Gombrich, Chief Executive Officer EMIS Inc. said, “We are particularly excited by the fact that we are the only vendor on the select list that does not already have a real presence in British Columbia. We feel this is indicative of the Province’s recognizing our solution’s ability to truly improve the health of patients in support of the move to a more clinically-based, wellness and chronic disease management focus.”

All of the vendors participating in the PITO program now have to demonstrate compliance with a set of functional and technical requirements before implementing their PITO-funded solution. Mr. Gombrich added, “While we are already delivering systems that meet the requirements outlined by PITO in other parts of the world, we do have to complete our conformance process with PITO specifically. Rather than rush to do so, we will simultaneously assure we meet – and exceed – the needs of the physicians and other users of the system in BC through the way we meet the requirements. Simply demonstrating functionality can be fairly straight-forward. But doing so in an elegant and clinically effective way can reap great benefits for those physicians intent on improving the way they care for patients. We look forward to working with physicians in British Columbia on this initiative beginning in the new year.”
