EMIS Inc.'s Electronic Patient Care Software Certified for Use in Alberta

EMIS Inc., a leading supplier of software that enables doctors to run their practices more effectively through the use of electronic records, announced today that its software meets Alberta's Vendor Conformance and Usability Requirements 2006.

VCUR 2006 testing ensures that products like EMIS PCS can keep patient information private and secure, but are also easy for healthcare providers to use. It also ensures that data generated by one electronic health record or patient care system can be read by other software systems used in the province. This allows clinicians to share information with healthcare providers located outside their hospital or clinic. The VCUR certification is also necessary for doctors to be reimbursed by the province for part of the cost of installing an electronic health record or patient care system. Reimbursements are paid on a monthly basis.

EMIS PCS software mirrors the workflow requirements in a family doctor or specialist's office and makes it easy to schedule visits, make references, record patient and treatment information, and write prescriptions. Information is stored electronically, instead of on paper, and can be easily shared with other healthcare providers treating a patient. Many tasks, like informing referring offices and patients of appointment times, can be automated, and information is always accurate and available.

VCUR 2006 testing is administered by the Physician Office System Program, an initiative between the Alberta Medical Association, Alberta Health and Wellness and Alberta's Regional Health Authorities.

EMIS launched its Canadian operations, headquartered in Edmonton, late last year.
