EMIS INC. ANNOUNCES SUCCESSFUL FIRST TEST OF ALBERTA PROVINCIAL HEALTH INFORMATION EXCHANGE MESSAGING
First EMR provider to demonstrate connectivity to the Alberta Netcare Initiative
EMIS Inc. announced today that, in collaboration with the Calgary Health Region and the Alberta Provincial Health Information Exchange (pHIE) Team, it has successfully exchanged messages between the EMIS Inc. PCS (“Patient Care System”) EMR used at one of its client-clinics, and the Alberta pHIE. This test was completed on time, and in accordance with the Calgary Health Region managed program that is charged with building and testing the pHIE for use throughout the Province of Alberta.
The pHIE will become the single point of connectivity for Electronic Health Record (EHR) components (including applications, repositories, viewers etc.), enabling access to, and sharing of common sets of data among authorized groups.
Alberta Health & Wellness selected the Calgary Health Region to lead the pHIE program so as to capitalize on the involvement of physicians and other healthcare providers who will ultimately adopt the system. The Region also brings proven expertise to this program, gained during the Region’s successful development of its own integrative solution.
According to Eric Gombrich, CEO of EMIS Inc., “While this is a first of many tests in the evolution of the Alberta Ministry of Health’s Provincial-wide Electronic Health Record (EHR) called Netcare, it does demonstrate both pHIE’s performance as well as EMIS’ capacity to deliver on large-scale, robust, and complex integration of information from individual clinics into the broader continuum of care.
