EMIS PCS Software Receives ASP accreditation in Alberta

EMIS PCS software has passed VCUR 2006 application service provider conformance requirements. The software is one of the few electronic records systems designed to be implemented in an ASP configuration, as opposed to a client-server format intended for standalone clinics. Physicians can now implement the software in their clinics but have the system managed and hosted by an outside IT organization.

The software mirrors the exact workflow requirements of physicians' and specialists' offices, making it easy to schedule visits, track patients' treatment history, and generate electronic prescriptions and bills.

"EMIS PCS is built using the latest software technology and from its inception was designed to be a robust, scalable ASP solution," said Peter Anderson, President and CEO, EMIS Inc. "The ASP model allows doctors to spend more time caring for their patients, and less time worrying about their clinic's IT system. The cost of the software is also tied to the size of a clinic, making it more affordable for smaller practices."

VCUR testing ensures that electronic patient records can be kept private and secure, but can also be read by other software systems used in Alberta. VCUR conformance is necessary for doctors to be reimbursed by the province for part of the cost of installing a Physician Office Management System.

VCUR testing is administered by the Physician Office System Program, an initiative between the Alberta Medical Association, Alberta Health and Wellness and Alberta's Regional Health Authorities.
