EMIS and Canadian Pharmacists Association form partnership
EMIS Inc. to gain integrated access to CPS Drug Monographs
Edmonton, AB - 28 January 2010 – EMIS Inc. and the Canadian Pharmacists Association (CPhA) announced today that they have signed an agreement to incorporate the Compendium of Pharmaceuticals and Specialties (CPS) drug monographs into the EMIS EMR, Patient Care System (PCS). Access to current Canadian drug monographs will further enhance the ability of PCS users to confidently prescribe using the clinical information found in the CPS.
“We are excited to provide users with additional Canadian drug content and functionality in the form of easy-to-access and up-to-date information to assist in their overall prescribing decisions,” said Audrey Bliss, B.Sc.Pharm, Coding and Drug Coordinator for EMIS Inc. “We are now able to allow users access to this trusted Canadian drug information resource directly within our product.”
EMIS’s EMR currently contains drug monographs; however, with the addition of CPS’s Health Canadaapproved monographs submitted by manufacturers, as well as over 140 drug and drug class monographs developed by CPhA’s clinical editors and reviewed by external experts, this EMR becomes a more comprehensive resource. Each drug monograph has several sections, including a general drug description, indications, contraindications, warnings, precautions, drug interactions, adverse effects, overdose information, dosage information and the available formats and strengths as supplied by the manufacturer.
“We are pleased to partner with EMIS on this exciting opportunity in the EMR market,” stated James de Gaspé Bonar, PhD, Senior Director, Digital Publishing Solutions at CPhA.
EMIS will be working with CPhA to deploy this capability to its clients into the production environment this quarter.
