THE CANADIAN NATIONAL USER GROUP FOR EMIS’ SOLUTIONS ANNOUNCES 2009 MEETING

Calgary, Alberta - 8 October 2008

Microsoft to deliver keynote address on patient access to their own health record

The Canadian National User Group (CNUG; pr: "snug") for EMIS Inc. EMR users announced today that its 2009 annual meeting will be held May 1 & 2, 2009 at the Banff Park Lodge Resort and Conference Centre, Banff, Alberta.

According to Steve Edworthy, M.D., a Rheumatologist and Co-Chair of CNUG, "Last year’s event was tremendous for an inaugural event and was attended by over 100 individuals from across Canada who have a stake in how the EMR will transform our healthcare delivery system. With EMIS’ growing place in physicians’ offices across Canada, we believe CNUG is a perfect venue to guide the country in the way the EMR, regardless of vendor, can transform our system to a more sustainable care delivery model."

The 2009 event will carry on from 2008’s theme of exploring how the EMR can be utilized by physicians, allied health, and patients themselves to collaboratively improve care. While the agenda continues to be developed by the organizing committee, the keynote address is already confirmed and will be delivered by Microsoft as they discuss their vision of how technology will be leveraged by consumers and patients to take an active role in their health.

David Pattenden, Director of Healthcare for Microsoft Canada, will present how on-line initiatives like HealthVault can help to strengthen and extend relationships between patients and providers, and improve communications and data sharing to enable patient self-management for health, wellness and chronic disease scenarios. David will discuss Microsoft’s strategy in this area, and how on-line consumer tools and home medical device integration can extend the reach and value of EMRs to improve overall health outcomes.

"Given the challenges in Canada to reducing health care waiting times, and improve access to providers, this solution is perfectly suited to the Canadian environment," said Eric Gombrich, Chief Executive Officer of EMIS Inc. He added, "We are excited to expand our existing partnership with Adastra into Canada, so we can begin delivering this much needed solution here."
