EMIS INC. & ADASTRA TO COLLABORATE IN CANADA
EMIS Inc. and Adastra (www.adastra.com) announced today, a Canadian-based strategic alliance which will support improved access to after-hours healthcare for Canadians, while reducing the growing pressure on hospital emergency departments.
Adastra's application manages the process of receiving an urgent-care call in the after-hours period, dispatching the appropriate care provider, monitoring and tracking the call's progress, and appropriately reporting the event. EMIS and Adastra have already delivered seamless integration of their solutions throughout the U.K., to enable overnight and weekend care providers the ability to benefit from remote and secure access to a patient's electronic medical record. The result is continuity of care for patients around the clock, 7 days a week.
Across Canada, there is particularly strong interest in Adastra as a solution which can support the orchestration of after-hours care services, thus, taking the pressure off hospital emergency departments. Building on strong foundations in the conventional primary-care setting, Canadian healthcare organizations are seeking to integrate new forms of patient access to comprehensive primary and specialist care, including telephone triage, home-based care, and minor illness and injury care outside of the Emergency Room. These forms of access will ensure that patients with chronic diseases and other complex, managed conditions receive appropriate support and care, rather than crisis management.
This alliance will see EMIS Inc. partnering with Adastra in delivering its urgent care solution to the Canadian market, including business analysis, development assistance, and infrastructure & training support. The focus of this alliance will be in fine tuning and delivering Adastra's solution for the Canadian market while ensuring clinical interoperability with EMIS' PCS electronic medical record (EMR) system. EMIS Inc. will also provide office facilities and support staff to the Adastra team in Canada.
Lynn Woods, Chief Executive Officer of Adastra reports "Adastra and EMIS are already working together to deliver integrated primary healthcare in the UK. It follows naturally that we should collaborate in a Canadian setting which offers enormous scope for innovation"
"Given the challenges in Canada to reducing health care waiting times, and improve access to providers, this solution is perfectly suited to the Canadian environment," said Eric Gombrich, Chief Executive Officer of EMIS Inc. He added, "We are excited to expand our existing partnership with Adastra into Canada, so we can begin delivering this much needed solution here."
